It’s lights out for the Experience Music Project and a new dawn for its updated name: the Museum of Pop Culture, or MoPop. The unique building designed by Frank O. Gehry, was inspired to create “a structure that evoked the rock ‘n’ roll experience.” As inspiration, Gehry sliced up several electric guitars and used them to create an early model design of the building. Gehry’s use of a multitude of textures and colors in the building’s design subsequently creates changing reflections in differing light conditions and angles, symbolizing the evolving nature of music and culture. Therefore, it’s only fitting its name has evolved as well!
Wanna see what all the buzz is all about? This Saturday, November 19th, MoPop is celebrating its new moniker with free admission to all galleries, and a day long Pop Culture Party that includes free architecture tours of the iconic building, pop culture games and activities, a photo hunt, and much more.
