Cars Portrayed On Screen from the Mid-Century Era

Drew MeyersJune 28, 2017June 30, 2017

Those who lived through the mid-century era are reminded of their youth every time they watch a film showcasing cars from the era. We thought it would be interesting to dig into the cars that were prevalent during the mid-century movement, and take a few moments to showcase some of our personal on screen favorites.

Virtually everyone has seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), and can remember the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider.

Don Draper went through several cars throughout the 7 seasons of Mad Men. A 1957 Ford Country Sedan, 1960 Buick LeSabre, 1961 Dodge Polara,1962 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, and finally a 1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown Convertible (source: https://www.historicvehicle.org/). My personal favorites were the Polara that he wrecked, and the Imperial Crown convertible (seen below).

The 1968 classic Bullitt featuring Steve McQueen. A 1968 Mustang is the famous 2nd character. It was just recently uncovered in a Mexican junkyard.

Christine, the 1983 film whose star was a 1958 Plymouth Fury.

Of course, how could this list be complete without including “Eleanor”. The 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback GT 500 is the clear star of the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds (one of my favorite movies to this day).

What are your favorite movies that include a mid-century gem?
