It’s fun to sit back and wonder how the rich and famous live their lives. We’ve been doing a little research to see who among them live the Modern way, and we’re happy to share.
First up is Meryl Streep!
Meryl Streep purchased this three bedroom, three bath home designed by Smith and Williams in 2018. At the end of a long private driveway, this single-story home has a lush entry. The large windows throughout the home provide views of the San Gabriel Mountains from every room.
The wood-planked ceilings with black beams sit high above all the way through to the bedrooms. Not pictured is a lush lagoon-like swimming pool that sits away from the house among the grounds mature trees. These pics are from the listing agent, so we can’t wait to see what Meryl does with the place.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo has a serious habit of buying properties, but this one is special, especially for us Modern fans. This mid-century Modern gem, originally built for actress and singer Dinah Shore in 1964, is currently owned by DiCaprio—and that’s not the end of its celebrity connections. The ranch-style estate was designed by renowned architect Donald Wexler, who pioneered the steel post-and-beam design, in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood of Palm Springs.
You can rent this 6 bed, 7.5 bath home! Take it for a spin, or at least follow the link and take a virtual tour! It’s only $3,750 a night! And if you see Leonardo, please tell him we said “Hi”.

Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston is no slouch when it comes to mid-century Modern fandom. She sold her 1970’s Harold W. Levitt home in 2011 to buy her current home, this 1965 pad, originally designed by A. Quincy Jones.
In both of Aniston’s Modern homes she worked with designer Stephen Shadley to make them fit her laid back (maybe zen?) lifestyle. She’s a serious art collector as well and the new home casually works the art into every room. She did make the house her own though, and not just by hanging art on the walls…for instance the kitchen now features a wood-fired pizza oven, the installation of which required exterior walls to be extended.
Fun fact: The original pool, which was built for a home that predated the A. Quincy Jones structure, was dug up and repositioned to be parallel with the 1965 house above.

Mandy Moore
Mandy bought a house that was designed by Harold B. Zook, a notable but lesser-known architect who worked with the Modernist Albert Frey in Palm Springs before hanging his shingle in Pasadena.
Although the bones of the structure were fairly intact, additions and interior edits in the early 1990s messed with the original structure’s sparse modern lines and quintessential mid-century vibe. Moore and her husband tried to recapture the home’s original spirit by imagining what Zook would do if he were designing it today.

Trevor Noah
Not only did Trevor plunk down $20.5 million in 2018 for a cool Modern home in Bel Air, he then sold that house for $21.7 in 2020 and bought this even more striking Modern home in the same neighborhood for $27.5 million.
Noah bought this one directly from Mark Rios, the L.A. architect who built the aggressively contemporary 11,000-square-foot home for himself in 2014.
Along with being Modern, this home has a strong Japanese influence with pared-back simplicity and soothing spa like aesthetics…heck, there’s even a Japanese spa on premises. Fitting for a star of stage and screen, the home also has a unique penthouse level solely dedicated to a deluxe movie theater, where walls disappear at the touch of a button, opening to a rooftop deck with a bar seating area.

And just in case you’re in the market and want a piece of property for yourself, Jimmy Fallon‘s crazy NY pad just went up for sale for $15 million smackaroos as well.
We’re currently looking for a late night show to host for a little extra cheddar if you know of any, apparently it pays well.
