Docomomo US’ puts on an annual national event that works to raise the awareness of and appreciation for buildings, interiors and landscapes designed in the United States during the mid-20th century.
The event is coming up soon — October 8th — and Seattle is one of the participating cities. The Seattle tour is in Portage Bay, and features two mid-century modern residences. The Van Horne house (1114 E Shelby St) was completed in 1953 and designed by architects John and Audrey Van Horne. Next door is the Cushman residence (1108 E Shelby St), original home of architect Edward Cushman (also built in 1953).
