Rock This Way
4979 S Cottonwood Lane Holladay, Utah
$1,200,000
Don’t be fooled by the Shoji screens or the Zen garden, this mid-century Modern home is not where you think it is. Located in Holladay, Utah, a city on the outskirts of Salt Lake City, this Japanese-inspired abode by Stephen Macdonald seamlessly brings the outdoors in. Upon entering the 2,500 square-foot home, the walkway is paved with original granite tiles, which extend into the home’s foyer. Once inside, wood-beamed ceilings draw your eye to the window walls, revealing a tranquil backyard pool. Large stone slabs cover the living room wall while a suspended fireplace surrounded by large rocks anchors the space. In place of typical flooring, one narrow hallway is composed of small rocks and log rounds—it’s basically a river waiting to happen. Since the home’s completion in 1958, the same family has occupied it and maintained its original design (rare!). As much as we would love to be second owners of this incredible mid-century home, we think it should go to one of you. Drool over more images here.
Pretty in Pink
707 West Regal Drive Palm Springs, California
$2,099,000
Exactly 60 years after its completion, this William Krisel home in Palm Springs finally got the renovation it deserved. Once hidden behind overgrown foliage and outdated ‘80s-style interiors, local design firm Thomboy Properties Inc. restored and contemporized the home in 2019. From the moment you step onto the property, you’re greeted by a classic breezeblock wall and a bubblegum pink front door—a design duo that reigns supreme in Palm Springs. Inside, the interiors have been completely renovated to include glossy kitchen cabinets, all-white walls, and gorgeous triangular windows that correspond with the angular roofline. Plus, as if we needed another reason to love this house, the current owners’ selection of mid-century-style furniture is included in the sale price. Lastly, no Palm Springs home is complete without an outdoor entertainment area. Stocked with a sleek bar and grill, pool, and plenty of lounge space, the backyard is the perfect retreat after a long day of doing nothing. Want to see more images? Feast your eyes here.
Shore Thing
12 Whalers Lane Amagansett, New York 11930
$11,900,000
With its sleek backyard infinity pool, gas fire pit, outdoor kitchen, shower, changing room, and two upper-level decks capturing unobstructed views of the Atlantic, this beachfront home north of East Hampton is best enjoyed outdoors. But, if you must come inside, the interiors are not bad either. Designed by Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects and MCC Builders, the Modern home is washed in a calming, neutral palette to blend in with the nearby sand dunes. The main level’s open floorplan connects the chic living room, dining room, and kitchen with expansive sliding window walls that lead to the outdoor patio. Up the floating staircase, the second floor features a slim catwalk, allowing even more sunlight to seep throughout the home. We know you want to see more of this house, so click here.
Shape Up
1124 Kenwood Parkway Minneapolis, Minnesota 55403
$1,250,000
Situated in Minneapolis’ historic Kenwood neighborhood, this chic townhome takes a turn for the post-Modern. Accentuated by two rounded rooftops and contrasting rectangular windows, it should be so wrong, yet it looks so right. Despite its out-there exterior, the home’s interiors are surprisingly modest: bright white walls, natural wood cabinetry, and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the fleeting months of temperate Minnesota weather. Upstairs, the master bedroom has rounded ceilings to correspond with the curved roofline, leaving lots of headspace for a loft or home office. The rooftop deck, if you’re lucky to enjoy it more than three months out of the year, captures unrivaled views of Minneapolis’ downtown skyline and the Walker Art Center. It’s a design lover’s retreat from top to bottom. Don’t believe us? Click here to see for yourself.
