Period-Perfect Time Capsule Hits the Market in Palm Springs

katherine mcbrideJune 12, 2017June 13, 2017

There is something quite alluring about a home that has been left seemingly frozen in time. Time capsule homes are increasing in popularity as it becomes less and less common to find a home of the mid-century era that is either still owned by its original owners or has passed through the hands of only a select few. It is even less common to imagine a home that has managed to maintain it’s original luster or has avoided being remodeled or renovated at some point throughout the years.

That is why these properties are so highly sought after, and why realtors often tell their clients to maintain the original intention of their home if it is possible to do so. Stepping into a time capsule home is like stepping back in time. We just so happened to stumble across such a home for sale in Palm Springs.

This desert home was designed by notable Architect, Richard Harrison of Wexler/Harrison, in partnership with famed interior designer Arthur Elrod.

From Modernism Weekly:

Richard Arnett Harrison was a native born Southern Californian. Born in Los Angeles June 5, 1924, Rick attended University High School in Los Angeles. He went on to graduate from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, Cum Laude. After travel to Mexico and Canada, Harrison began work at William F. Cody’s firm in Palm Springs from July 1951 to February 1953, where he worked side by side with his soon to be partner Donald Wexler. Other influential architects who worked for Wexler and Harrison included Richard Neutra and William Cody. Harrison went on to design homes throughout Southern California including Seven Lakes and enclaves of homes in Nevada.
