PALM SPRINGS, CA: palmspringsstyle.com
Yes, we’re aware, this one’s not for sale. That can’t stop us from wishing. The iconic John Lautner-designed Elrod House is the supreme modernist party pad, perched high into the hills of the Southridge neighborhood of Palm Springs and centered around a circular living room that is 60 feet in diameter and topped by a conical domed ceiling with nine concrete petals alternated between wedge-shaped glass windows. Commissioned by noted interior designer Arthur Elrod, Lautner decided to excavate down eight feet in order to expose the bedrock, which was incorporated into the design of the property. It was featured in the 1971 James Bond film, “Diamonds Are Forever.”
If these bright and inspiring sun escapes have you all warmed up, toss aside that throw, pull back on the old rain boots, and like a true Pacific Northwesterner, venture back out into the slightly more grey toned reality of ours.
